We see glimpses of it in his other films, but "For Your Eyes Only" really shows how masterfully Roger Moore could drop the charm and play the brutal, vengeful side of James Bond.

Also, Carole Bouquet is still one of the most gorgeous Bond actresses, and Topol plays the most charismatic ally since Pedro Armendariz in "From Russia With Love."

For Your Eyes Only was a great film to bring Bond back down to earth *pun intended* following Moonraker which most people would agree was a bit over the top even for a Moore era Bond film. FYEO was a return to Fleming's Bond with nice touches of Moore's humor and wit scattered throughout. It was the grittiest and most realistic Bond film that Moore did. My only real complaint about it is that the script never really allowed Julian Glover to be as menacing of a villain as I think he could have been. He was an excellent in Indiana Jones and Star Wars but his character was pretty bland in FYEO.

This for me was the turning point for Bond films. For your eyes only sets up The 80,s bond films very nicely. which was a big improvement from the 70's films. The films got more down to earth and serious. Roger started acting more serious much more like a secret agent. He was good in this film.
