This Summer I hiked 60 miles (I tracked 80 miles total including going back to grab my camera lol) alone in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in Northern Iceland. My journey took me through streams, past waterfalls, around cliffs, over passes and eventually to the stunningly beautiful horn cliffs. Solo hikes usually don't involve much talking and I wanted to make a film that reflected the minimalism and silence of the area.

Hornstrandir is the final peninsula that juts over the top of the West Fjords, Iceland - and remains a daunting place for its intense beauty and extreme nature. The mountains are pyramid-shaped, sharpened by constant ice and wind. The cliffs stand up like defiant walls against the sea, and the intermittent valleys are lush green places of rare plants and wildflowers.

It is a place to enjoy silence – a place where you actually notice the sound of a bird’s wings, the wind, the trickle of a stream or the hum of a very distant boat engine. Other than Iceland’s desert interior, Hornstrandir is the best place to feel completely alone on planet Earth.

# - Alpine flowers in this area were spectacular and like nothing I had ever seen
# - These birds attacked me for a good 10 minutes. Must have been close to their nest or something.
# - Almost fluorescent green moss and colorful alpine flowers mark hillside streams. It's really beautiful to see how much life springs up every Summer around this life-giving water and soil. When you're spending your entire day walking in pure nature, it's much easier to pay attention to the small beautiful things on the grounds.

# - Solar charger - https://geni.us/1y23XQ. It didn't really charge so I'll probably swap it for a smaller battery of the same capacity. Solar is a nice idea but doesn't work well.
# - I shot this cliff scene with a GoPro 7 Hero Black - https://geni.us/UkBs but I felt it didn't match the tone of the rest of the film. I almost didn't put it in and ended up just muting my cursing and mutterings during the decent lol.

# - River crossings were easy once you accepted the fact that you had to take your shoes and socks off. The water was cold but refreshing. Water shoes would be nice but would simply be a luxury out there.
# - I did not expect so many flies on this hike. At a point you almost have to just accept their existence and not react otherwise you'd be swatting away 24/7. My drying and stinky socks acted like a diversion while they hung from my pack so that worked well. I was constantly searching for areas where the wind blew the flies away.
