  • -It's on IFC. It's not on ABC at all.
  • But, dude, it's a lot of work, those things.
  • -It's insane. -It's you and Seth --
  • Seth Meyers and Bill Hader, right?
  • -And we have some more cast members and stuff.
  • It's these fake documentaries that we do.
  • And we shoot them -- [ Laughter ]

  • -Yeah. -It is.
  • [ Laughter ]
  • -I know! -I know!
  • -And, uh -- We shoot them just all over the place.
  • Colombia and Iceland. We do.
  • That part's real. -Who cares?
  • -Who cares? -Who cares?
  • -Who cares about your project?
  • -Who cares and you talking about the thing,
  • where you're shooting and -- yeah.
  • Do an impression, come on. Just do the bit.
  • Just do the dumb bit. -I've been working
  • on some impressions of accents through the decades.
  • -Let's go back to 1900s. -So, 1900s --
  • [ Stiffly ] The manufacturer and the farmer.
  • People thought it was British,
  • but it's actually very Dutch and German.
  • [ Stiffly ] The manufacturer and the farmer.
  • In the '20s, they start getting very aware of the microphone,
  • and then it sort of opens up in the '30s.
  • Quiet now. Quiet now.
  • Quiet.
  • And then the '50s, the '50s it starts
  • to flatten out a little bit. [ Light laughter ]
  • The '50s -- The '50s -- It starts --
  • I liked to -- On a Friday night,
  • I'd like to read a book on a Friday night.
  • There's the '50s. The '60s diverges a little bit,
  • where there's an official sort of, "In the news are..."
  • And then -- And then, the sort of people
  • in interviews looked like they were in shock.
  • Everyone was sort of like, "Yeah, wow."
  • [ Laughter ]
  • We want the universe to know...
  • A spiritual awakening. [ Laughter ]
  • And then, the '70s, it was kind of a whisper.
  • The '70s has a whisper to it.
  • The '70s -- There's a sort of confusion.
  • There's a whisper.
  • And then, the '90s is very kind of laid -- wow.
  • The '90s laid back.
  • Yay. Very sarcastic and ironic.
  • Wow.
  • And then, the 2000s, you start to hear the vocal fry.
  • The guys are in a meeting and they can --
  • You can sort of hear that throughout when they're talking
  • on a conference call. You can hear --
  • [ Laughter ]
  • That's it. -Oh, my gosh.
  • That is absolutely -- That was actually amazing.
  • -I was showing off. -"I was showing off."
  • -I'm sorry. -I love it.
  • What do we have to look forward to in "Documentary Now!"
  • this season? -"Documentary Now!"
  • Let's see, we did a bunch of -- [ Laughter ]
  • We shot in Budapest, Hungary.
  • We did one with Cate Blanchett.
  • -What is this one that we have a clip of?
  • -This one is Cate Blanchett and myself as these two artists.
  • It's kind of based on Marina Abramovic,
  • the performance artist.
  • So this is us painting ourselves and going up against the wall.
  • -I want to show everyone a clip.
  • Here's the great Fred Armisen and Cate Blanchett --
  • the great Cate Blanchett --
  • in the new season of "Documentary Now!"
  • Take a look at this.
  • -My opinion was that she carried Demo.
  • You had a woman who risked everything in her art
  • and a man who risked nothing.
  • -I conceived these performance impressions.
  • Two lovers covered in paint,
  • violently lunging ourselves into the canvas.
  • So that even when we left, we would remain.
  • -"Impressions" was identical to an original piece
  • of Isabella's, called "Misremembered."
  • -It is very different.
  • This piece is of two people, not one.
  • Very different.
  • That paint is black, this is blue.
  • Blue is different than black.
  • [ Cheers and applause ]
  • -Fred Armisen, everybody! "Documentary Now!"
  • Returns this Wednesday at 11:00 p.m. on IFC,
  • and go see Fred on tour.
