  • - Yo, what's up guys, welcome back.
  • Today, I am in Ottawa, Ontario
  • to meet up with a few of my friends
  • and I just thought it'd be fun
  • to challenge them with some puzzles.
  • Now, these are not just regular people.
  • These are world-renowned magicians.
  • We have Eric Leclerc, star of NatGeo's Brain Games
  • and Tricked.
  • We have Penn and Teller Fooler, Wes Barker.
  • We have Mobile Escape designer, Eric Marcotte,
  • and we have Alex Boyer.
  • I'm gonna challenge these four guys
  • to solve these super-easy level one puzzles.
  • Whoever solves it in the fastest time
  • wins a thousand dollars.
  • So, the three puzzles in question are all level ones.
  • This first one is basically two identical blocks
  • that form a pyramid, pretty simple.
  • This next one is kinda like a linking metal ring
  • where you have to unlink them and then link them again.
  • The last one's a Hanayama diamond puzzle.
  • The only thing you have to do here
  • is to put these two pieces together.
  • I'll leave the link below to these puzzles
  • if you're interested.
  • Let's start with Wes Barker.
  • Contestant number one, Wes Barker.
  • Thousand bucks on the line, buddy.
  • - $1,500, alrighty.
  • - [Chris] It's a thousand.
  • - Okay. (laughing)
  • - [Chris] Wes, I got a question for you.
  • How's your puzzle-solving skills?
  • - I don't know. I haven't solved a puzzle in a long time.
  • - [Chris] Do you even watch my videos?
  • - I did watch the escape room one that I was in. (laughing)
  • - [Chris] We have a timer. We have three puzzles.
  • Fastest one to solve it gets a thousand bucks.
  • Very simple.
  • This one makes a pyramid.
  • This one, you gotta put back together,
  • and this one you gotta take apart and put together.
  • - [Wes] Kay.
  • - [Chris] Get set, go.
  • Starting the harder one first, eh?
  • - This is hard?
  • - [Chris] I don't know, we'll see.
  • No force, by the way.
  • - [Wes] Yeah, yeah.
  • Kay.
  • Yeah, it's apart, right?
  • - [Chris] Oh, you got it apart, look at that.
  • That's actually really good. - [Wes] Is that back together?
  • - [Chris] Yeah!
  • One down.
  • That one's tricky. - [Wes] What the heck?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - [Wes] Holy...
  • - [Chris] That's probably my favorite out of all of them.
  • - [Wes] This is the hardest one?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • (laughing)
  • It's not hard.
  • - [Wes] Should I leave it till the end?
  • - [Chris] You could, yeah.
  • - [Wes] This makes a pyramid? - Yeah.
  • - [Wes] What? - It's silly, right?
  • - [Wes] Like a real pyramid?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - What?
  • How
  • the,
  • think you're messing with me.
  • - [Chris] No, it should be fine.
  • A bit of a...
  • - [Wes] I literally don't understand.
  • - [Chris] A bit of a kid's toy, really.
  • - [Wes] Oh, oh!
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] Definitely not a pyramid. (laughing)
  • - [Wes] How?
  • - [Chris] A minute, dude.
  • That's pretty good.
  • - [Wes] For doing nothing so far?
  • - [Chris] You've done, probably, the second hardest.
  • So funny watching you struggle on this.
  • - Holy crap, is it stupid, eh?
  • - [Chris] Once you get it, you're like, oh.
  • Yeah, the fact that it's just two identical pieces.
  • (laughing)
  • - I can't even.
  • This, at least, I know there's something...
  • - [Chris] No force on that one.
  • - Obviously, yeah.
  • Okay, maybe I can do something here.
  • Holy.
  • I thought we were gonna have some spinners,
  • or bangers, or something.
  • - [Chris] No spinning, no banging.
  • - [Wes] I was really ready for that.
  • This is so dumb!
  • This is what you do all the time?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - This seems like there's not even options.
  • What would you even do, right?
  • - [Chris] They tell you it's a move.
  • - It's a move. - Yeah.
  • - [Chris] That's all I can tell you. It's a move,
  • and it's no force at all.
  • Very satisfying move.
  • - [Wes] Okay.
  • This is stressing me out, man.
  • - [Chris] Back to this?
  • - I feel like I saw this together earlier when I walked by.
  • - [Chris] You did.
  • You might have, actually.
  • That's a shame.
  • - Well, back then,
  • I thought the goal was to take it apart.
  • So, I didn't look at it.
  • - [Chris] How bad do you need this money?
  • - Man, $1,500 bucks would be really helpful.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] So much time ticking away right now.
  • - [Wes] I know, man!
  • - [Chris] You solved the first one
  • in 30 seconds. - Yeah.
  • - I feel like I don't even know
  • what a pyramid looks like, then, you know?
  • Like, a pyramid's got a base and goes up.
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - Like, a pyramid pyramid.
  • We're talking about the same thing.
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • Yeah, there's only one type of pyramid,
  • and that's not it.
  • (chuckling)
  • - This is not possible, man!
  • These are level ones?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • (thumping)
  • - I gotta start watching your videos.
  • (knocking)
  • - [Chris] Eric's waiting outside, taunting Wes.
  • - What if I never finish these?
  • - [Chris] I mean, we got all day, bro.
  • - It's a move, that never really helped me.
  • That little tidbit.
  • Okay, I'm a better friend of yours than Eric is.
  • You gonna give me a little more advice?
  • He'll never know, he's never gonna watch this video.
  • - [Chris] Can't do it, buddy.
  • - Why are there holes in it? Have anything to do with it?
  • - [Chris] No.
  • - [Wes] I feel like I'm just doing the same thing
  • over and over again here.
  • - [Chris] Welcome to my life.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Wes] I'm only gonna watch the ones you don't finish.
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - [Wes] Those are the ones that'll make me happy.
  • - [Chris] Where are we at? - [Wes] Five minutes.
  • - [Chris] Five minutes, ooh.
  • - I can't even imagine.
  • I know what it would look like, it would be so beautiful.
  • - [Chris] I'll give you another hint.
  • Symmetry is key.
  • - Symmetry.
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - Symmetry.
  • - [Chris] Now you're thinking.
  • - I'm thinking.
  • - [Chris] Using your brain, see?
  • Now you're not just trying to force pieces together.
  • Now, all of a sudden, you're thinking.
  • - Yeah.
  • I am thinking it's kind of cute the way it looks.
  • Oh.
  • Ah.
  • No, it couldn't be.
  • Oh, wow!
  • - [Chris] How satisfying is that?
  • - That's
  • so good!
  • Ooh!
  • I don't even care if I lose now,
  • because that's actually...
  • - [Chris] Isn't that fun?
  • - That's my favorite thing.
  • - [Chris] Yeah, I know. - I want one.
  • - [Chris] I love that one.
  • Last one, dude.
  • - Oh, god, that felt so good.
  • - [Chris] The stupid pyramid.
  • We're at six and a half.
  • - All right.
  • - [Chris] I said seven or eight, not bad.
  • - Yeah.
  • - [Chris] There you go.
  • - Oh my gosh!
  • (laughing)
  • That.
  • Oh!
  • That was an accident.
  • That was so good!
  • $1,500 bucks, baby!
  • - [Chris] Time to beat.
  • Six minutes, 40 seconds.
  • Good job, Wes.
  • - Thanks, man.
  • That was fun. - La la la la la la, la la la
  • ah ah!
  • Woo!
  • - [Chris] Eric Leclerc.
  • - Hello.
  • - [Chris] So, Eric's been sitting by the sidelines.
  • You've seen the puzzles, you don't know how they work.
  • - I haven't touched them yet.
  • How did Wes do?
  • - [Chris] Wes did six minutes and 40 seconds.
  • I predicted seven, eight minutes,
  • so it was pretty good. - Really?
  • - [Chris] He got the first one in about 30 seconds
  • and the other ones took a little longer, but Eric?
  • Ready,
  • set, go!
  • Start with whatever one you want.
  • - What do I have to do here?
  • - [Chris] Build a pyramid.
  • - [Eric] Make a pyramid? - Yeah.
  • - [Chris] It's silly, right?
  • Hey, you got it!
  • You got that pyramid real quick.
  • - [Eric] What do I do with this?
  • - [Chris] That, you have to put together.
  • No force required.
  • - [Eric] Is this the one where Wes struggled to get?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - [Eric] What's preventing this?
  • Maybe it needs a little.
  • Nope.
  • - [Chris] So gross.
  • - You never know.
  • - [Chris] Eric's switching it up.
  • That one you need to take apart
  • and then put back together.
  • - [Eric] Really? - Yeah.
  • - [Chris] That's the one that Wes did in 30 seconds.
  • - [Eric] Took apart and put it back in 30 seconds?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • - [Eric] This is it.
  • - [Chris] It's really interesting how some people
  • have harder times with...
  • - [Eric] Got it? - Yeah.
  • - [Chris] You gotta put it back.
  • (clunking)
  • That one's completed, that one's completed.
  • This is the harder one of the three,
  • but the most satisfying, for sure.
  • - [Eric] What?
  • - [Chris] You've got plenty of time, by the way.
  • You're at two minutes, 16.
  • Crushing it right now.
  • (banging)
  • - [Eric] Okay, this has to go here, obviously.
  • This is going here, why.
  • - [Chris] Of course.
  • No of course.
  • - [Eric] This one you just have to put together?
  • - [Chris] Yep.
  • - [Eric] Really? - Yeah.
  • - That pyramid took me a long time.
  • - [Eric] How long did this take you?
  • - [Chris] That took him a couple minutes.
  • - [Eric] Okay, obviously you have to go the same way.
  • - [Chris] Use your problem-solving skills here.
  • - This is a level one? - Yeah.
  • - [Eric] Like, seven-year-olds do this?
  • - [Chris] Not necessarily.
  • Hanayamas are pretty difficult, even the level ones.
  • Defeat Wes's time, one puzzle left.
  • Thousand dollars.
  • The five minute mark, I will give you the same clue
  • that I gave Wes.
  • I can say that it's a move.
  • I can say that.
  • (banging)
  • This is like a scene from A Beautiful Mind.
  • - What's the move?
  • - [Chris] Imagine doing this for six hours on video.
  • - [Eric] Imagine doing puzzles for a living on YouTube.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] Kind of like what you're trying to do now.
  • (laughing)
  • (grunting)
  • - It's only gonna give you a living for one week, though.
  • - [Eric] Hey, five minutes, go!
  • - [Chris] Five minutes?
  • Symmetry. - Symmetry?
  • - [Chris] Symmetry is used, and it's a move.
  • That's all you get.
  • That should be enough.
  • - [Eric] Symmetry.
  • Symmetry.
  • - [Chris] - You got one minute left, dude. (grunting)
  • - [Eric] Symmetry, symmetry, symmetry.
  • - [Chris] Look at how happy Wes is. (laughing)
  • He did not think he was winning this.
  • - [Wes] I still don't.
  • - [Eric] Symmetry, symmetry, okay,
  • and it's a move.
  • - [Chris] 40 seconds.
  • - [Eric] Does it go like this?
  • - [Chris] 30 seconds, 20 seconds.
  • - [Eric] Symmetry.
  • Symmetry.
  • - [Chris] Five.
  • Four.
  • Three.
  • (laughing)
  • (spraying)
  • - Woo!
  • - [Chris] Eric, what're you doin'?
  • (laughing)
  • - [Wes] No!
  • (pounding)
  • - [Chris] Wanna know how it's done?
  • Super satisfying.
  • Take them in your hands.
  • You almost had this, you were really close.
  • You wanna try to solve it on your own, still?
  • - No!
  • - [Chris] Okay, so, put them back-to-back.
  • - [Eric] Put them back-to-back.
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • So, that's face-to-face, I guess.
  • Put them back-to-back.
  • Yeah, and now rotate one of them 180-degrees.
  • Line the sides up.
  • Yep, and then twist them together.
  • - I'm so sorry.
  • (soft chuckling)
  • This was so fun.
  • Dude, this took me two minutes.
  • - [Chris] Way more satisfying
  • when you figure it out yourself, for sure.
  • (sighing)
  • Look at the ceiling!
  • Eric,
  • good try, man.
  • Eric Marcotte! - Yes.
  • - [Chris] You guys might remember him
  • from the escape room video we did.
  • So, this guy's got some puzzle knowledge.
  • He creates escape rooms.
  • This guy's a genius!
  • - Oh, come on, Chris!
  • - [Chris] Marcotte, the time to beat
  • is six minutes 40, which is...
  • - I've never seen any of these.
  • - [Chris] You can start with whatever one you like.
  • I'm just gonna tell you before we start.
  • That one makes a pyramid.
  • That one you put together with no force,
  • and this one you take apart and put back together.
  • None of them have force, ready?
  • On your mark, get set, Marcotte, let's go.
  • - Okay, this is the pyramid.
  • (banging)
  • - [Chris] It's just two blocks, right?
  • - [Marcotte] Yeah, I know.
  • - [Chris] Two identical blocks.
  • - [Marcotte] I see you're happy right now, eh?
  • I can feel it.
  • - [Chris] You're at a minute here.
  • Boom, you're already done.
  • - [Marcotte] So easy.
  • - [Chris] That might be the more difficult
  • out of the three.
  • I can just tell you that.
  • At the five-minute mark, I can give you one hint,
  • which I gave to the other boys.
  • Really fascinating to see which puzzles people struggle on
  • and which puzzles people find really easy,
  • 'cause it's different for everyone.
  • No force.
  • (grunting)
  • - [Marcotte] No, no.
  • Kay.
  • Twist out!
  • - [Chris] We're at a minute 50.
  • Oh, did I mention there's a thousand dollars on the line?
  • - No.
  • - [Chris] Oh, there's a thousand dollars.
  • - Now I'm screwed!
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] No pressure.
  • You got a fat rack.
  • That one took Wes about 30 seconds.
  • The pyramid took Wes about five minutes.
  • How stressed are you right now?
  • - I am.
  • I'm really nervous.
  • - [Chris] This is what you make people go through.
  • You know that, right, with your business?
  • - [Marcotte] Yeah.
  • Boom! - Yeah, put them back.
  • - [Marcotte] Oh, shit!
  • - [Chris] We're at three minutes.
  • - [Marcotte] Oh, geeze.
  • - [Chris] You've got three minutes and 40 seconds left
  • to beat Wes's time.
  • Who would think Wes would be the one to set the time.
  • Just saying.
  • - What do you mean?
  • - [Chris] Just saying.
  • - [Marcotte] So, I've never done any of these puzzles,
  • by the way.
  • Yes, I do have my escape room business,
  • but that is not my expertise.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] Well, it's not really helping your business out
  • right now, there, buddy.
  • - [Marcotte] I know.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] This is a bad promo. - Can I tag team?
  • - [Marcotte] To my business partner?
  • - [Chris] No, sir.
  • Three minutes 40.
  • There's three minutes left.
  • You're halfway there with half the time left.
  • Lookin' good, lookin' all right.
  • Sometimes we just try to,
  • we get panicky and try random things,
  • but sometimes you just gotta look at it practically.
  • - [Marcotte] Less stress.
  • - [Chris] Four minutes, 25.
  • How you feelin' right now, Wes?
  • - I feel pretty good!
  • - [Marcotte] Is that back?
  • - [Chris] It is, I don't know.
  • Yeah, it's back, go, man.
  • Last one.
  • In 10 seconds, I can give you one hint for that.
  • I can tell you right now that it's a move.
  • I can say that, and there's no force.
  • No force.
  • And I can tell you
  • you can use symmetry.
  • (banging)
  • It's a game-changer, eh?
  • Like how he uses symmetry?
  • - [Wes] I'm nervous!
  • - [Chris] I like how he uses symmetry
  • and then just tries to shove them together.
  • (laughing)
  • He's like, symmetry, okay.
  • (light jazz music)
  • Anyone doesn't need clues, it's Marcotte.
  • - [Marcotte] I don't remember when it was
  • the last time I was this stressed.
  • - [Chris] You're down to 15, 10 seconds, all right?
  • (banging)
  • Five.
  • Four.
  • Three.
  • Two.
  • One.
  • Time's up.
  • - Woo!
  • (laughing)
  • - I'm happy for you.
  • He needs it!
  • - [Chris] He does. - I do need it, yeah.
  • - Get out of my face.
  • Get out of my face!
  • - [Chris] Do you want to see how it works?
  • Marcotte.
  • - I do.
  • - [Chris] Do you want to solve it by yourself?
  • You're on the right path there.
  • Now you're really close.
  • There you go.
  • - Wait, wait, wait.
  • Man!
  • - [Eric] That's so frustrating!
  • - Now I know how people feel when they don't escape
  • during escape rooms.
  • (laughing)
  • Exactly this way. - Taste of your own medicine.
  • - Good job, brother.
  • All checks payable to Wes Barton, please.
  • - [Chris] We still got one guy comin' in.
  • - Where do you keep adding people?
  • I celebrated already!
  • - This is actually more stressful and exciting
  • than I thought.
  • I feel like there's a million dollars on the line.
  • - I checked my pulse at one point.
  • I was like, oh, don't solve it!
  • - [Chris] Good job, Marcotte.
  • - Thank you.
  • Thanks for the opportunity.
  • - [Chris] You're welcome.
  • Last magician to attempt the puzzle challenge.
  • Here's what's on the line.
  • If you complete this within six minutes and 40 seconds,
  • you will a thousand dollars.
  • Wes is the champion so far.
  • - Okay.
  • - [Chris] Nobody else solved all three puzzles in that time.
  • - Okay.
  • - [Chris] On your mark, get set, go.
  • - Let's do it.
  • So, pyramid, right?
  • - [Chris] Yep.
  • Nobody help him, no hints.
  • At five minutes, I'm gonna give you a hint on one of them.
  • - [Alex] I can't.
  • I don't know, next one.
  • If I win that thousand dollar,
  • I'm gonna buy more necklace.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Chris] I can tell you that's probably the hardest one.
  • - [Alex] Okay.
  • Pyramid, right? - Back to the pyramid.
  • - [Chris] Probably the easiest.
  • Took Wes the longest.
  • - [Alex] Oh my god.
  • Nope, pyramid.
  • - [Chris] Yep, it's just two pieces.
  • It's, yep, a pyramid.
  • Just two pieces of wood that are exactly the same
  • and make a pyramid.
  • - [Alex] Very simple.
  • - [Chris] Do you know what a pyramid looks like?
  • - [Alex] Yeah.
  • - [Chris] That's not what a pyramid looks like.
  • - [Alex] Did Leclerc do it?
  • - [Chris] Yep.
  • (banging)
  • - [Alex] That's close enough to a pyramid.
  • - [Chris] Definitely not a pyramid.
  • - [Alex] Come on! - Nope.
  • - [Chris] We're at one minute, 42.
  • You're lookin' pretty good right now, buddy.
  • (laughing)
  • - [Alex] Pyramid, okay.
  • - Pryamid!
  • Pryamid!
  • It's a pryamid!
  • A spiky on top!
  • - [Chris] Two and a half minutes.
  • - [Alex] You guys are stressing me out.
  • I'll get back to that one.
  • - [Chris] Use your head.
  • Look at it practically.
  • Think about it, ask questions to yourself.
  • How would that possibly fit through?
  • (banging)
  • - [Alex] So, this one is the toughest, right?
  • - [Chris] Yeah.
  • It's been the one that most people
  • have had a hard time with.
  • Everybody's different, though.
  • - [Alex] Yeah.
  • - [Chris] You only have three minutes left
  • and you haven't solved one yet.
  • No stress.
  • - [Alex] Okay.
  • So this one is a pyramid.
  • - [Chris] Stop putting it the same.
  • Do something different.
  • There's only so many options.
  • - [Alex] So, a pyramid, right?
  • What?
  • - [Chris] They don't have to be symmetrical.
  • - [Alex] All right.
  • Why can't I get this?
  • - [Chris] We're at four minutes, 45.
  • You've got two minutes left to solve all three.
  • - [Alex] No force.
  • - [Chris] No, no, no, don't!
  • - [Eric] Pryamid.
  • - So stupid! - Yeah.
  • - [Chris] Might've disqualified him.
  • - [Alex] I quit.
  • - [Chris] Come on, keep going.
  • Get one of them at least.
  • - [Alex] At least, all right, I'll get that one for sure.
  • - [Chris] Try the last one. (laughing)
  • (clapping)
  • - I'm good at magic.
  • This is exactly why I'm good at magic.
  • - Proof that you can bullshit your way through life.
  • - Yeah, exactly.
  • - [Chris] All right, you gotta put it back together, though.
  • - All right.
  • Okay, so this.
  • - [Chris] Three.
  • Two, one.
  • (cheering)
  • Hey, shake your beer, shake your beer.
  • - No, I would never do that.
  • - Congrats, man.
  • Congrats, buddy.
  • - [Chris] Congratulations, buddy.
  • - Thanks, man.
  • - [Chris] So, you get a thousand V-Bucks
  • to spend in Fortnite.
  • How do you feel? - $1,500 bucks!
  • - Oh, what?
  • - [Chris] A thousand V-Bucks to spend in Fortnite.
  • How do you feel? You can buy any skin you want.
  • - Sweet, man!
  • (laughing)
  • - I'm kidding man.
  • All right, guys.
  • That was the magician solving puzzle challenge.
  • If you guys liked this video, hit the like button.
  • Congratulations to Wes.
  • Congratulations to everybody who participated.
  • - Okay, congratulations to everybody.
  • - I left the links below.
  • You can check 'em out.

  • - We'll see you tonight.
  • Peace.
  • I don't know what you call this, but yeah, cheers!
  • - Cheers, guys.
  • - Cheers.
  • - To Wes! - To Wes!
  • (laughing)
  • - Son of a bitch!
  • Oh, that stings!
  • - [Eric] Oh, just for a minute. Then it goes away.
  • (laughing)
  • - He's so jelly.
  • - So sorry.
  • I'm really sorry.
  • - [Wes] That's fine.
